Emotional labor, occupational identity and work engagement in Portuguese police officers

Based on emotional labor theory, we aim to study the relationships between dimensions of (requirements and strategies), work engagement, occupational identity in Portuguese police officers. Therefore, intend explore possible effects both engagement identity, as well ways preventing and/or mitigating impact these relationships. We identified a gap studies this subject Portugal, particularly context professionals. Thus, sample 924 officers Public Security Police (PSP) was asked answer set questionnaires: Emotional Labour Scale, Emotion Work Requirements Utrecht Engagement Social Identity Scale. The data obtained analyzed using correlation multiple linear regression. Overall, results revealed demands (i.e., suppression negative emotions expression positive emotions) strategies deep surface acting) identity. discuss propose directions for future research, given richness subject.
